Hi, I’m Carolyn Logue, and I’m a licensed social worker and a certified equine assisted psychotherapist. It is my privilege to serve the ministry here at Wheatfield Academy as the equine services coordinator and a member of the therapy team.

The incredible bond between humans and horses has been documented for thousands of years. Did you know that a horse can hear a human heartbeat from approximately four feet away. An adult horse’s resting heart rate is typically in the range of 30 to 40 beats per minute. Due to the extremely large electromagnetic field surrounding a horse’s heart, their heart can actually lower an anxious or nervous human heart. This is extremely beneficial to adolescents and teens with anxiety, ADHD, and a history of trauma. By lowering the student’s heart rate, the student can then increase their focus – learning the skills necessary to respond to situations rather than reacting to them.

Our students here at Wheatfield Academy learn that more subtle communication will usually result in a dialogue that is more likely to have favorable results, while a forceful approach is most likely to end in confrontation and less desirable results that can negatively impact our relationships with peers, families, teachers, and eventually co-workers. This is only one of the ways in which our equine assisted programming here at Wheatfield Academy is so beneficial to our students physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

As prey animals, horses are incredible communicators as they work together within their herd to ensure safety for one another from predators. This element can be extremely beneficial for working through relationship and attachment issues some of our students may struggle with. This directly aligns with God’s desire for us to be more herd-like in our relationships with one another.

I am so blessed to have the opportunity to fulfill God’s purpose for my life through my work with the students here at Wheatfield Academy, so that each student here may learn and grow in communion with God, with their peers, and with their families so that they may uncover the talents and spiritual gifts which God has provided for them in order to fulfill his purpose for their life.

If you think your son might benefit from our programming here at Wheatfield Academy we would love to talk with you.
